Indy Street Flats, Colfax and Independence
MetroWest Housing Solutions will be opening the Wait List for their upcoming affordable housing community, Indy Street Flats, Wednesday, September 18 at 7 a.m. The Wait List will close Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m.
Indy Street Flats are located at Colfax and Independence and are open to the entire Lakewood community. Those looking for affordable housing—and anyone who knows families in need of affordable housing—can apply for the wait list.
Indy Street Flats will have Studios, 1-, 2-, and 3- bedroom units for individuals and families earning 30-60% of the Area Median Income. MWHS is only accepting online applications for the Wait List—there will be no paper applications. You may have noticed the updated sign and branding by long term local business Pickering’s Auto Service. Pickering’s has recognized the need to stay current while propelling their 43 year old business into the future. Trent and Brandon Pickering, sons of Owner Randy Pickering, continue to service the community’s automotive repair needs through the superior service and honest value instilled in them by their father. Blood donations are down across the nation and new donors need to step up. Colorado needs 450 donations a day to meet the need locally and support communities across the country. Blood donations aren’t just for disasters and emergencies. They save mothers during childbirth, children and people fighting cancer. At School of Rock Golden/Lakewood, their music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 8-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101. Help neighbors who can’t drive
Volunteer to help seniors, residents with disabilities and people with low incomes to provide transportation needs for these neighbors who can’t drive themselves. Even just one hour a week can make a difference through a program with the Local Coordinating Council Serving Jefferson County. Learn more at Jeffco.us.

The Belmar Library in central Lakewood is closed beginning Monday, Sept. 30 as it begins an extensive redesign project. The final open day is Sunday, Sept 29.
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is planning a major redesign of the Belmar Library located at 555 South Allison Parkway in Lakewood. The Library will be closed for construction Sept. 30 through spring 2020 when it reopens its doors as a new, 21st century library.
During construction, patrons can visit other locations or use the Belmar Library Holds Locker and Vending Machine coming soon to the parking garage the Lakewood Civic and Cultural Center (470 S. Allison Parkway). The first in Jefferson County, the lockers and vending machine are easy to use, convenient and fun, offering patrons the ability to place a hold online, then pick up items and return them directly to the lockers. They can also browse a small collection in the vending machine and take the item of choice home right away. Other library services, like Story Times, Book a Librarian, programs and computer classes are available at other nearby locations.
