Eaton Senior Communities was recognized in 2013 and 2018 with “City of Lakewood Community Sustainability Awards.” The 2013 award acknowledged Eaton’s resident-led recycling efforts that began in 2008, with the “going green” initiative culminating in Eaton’s long list of energy-and water-saving improvements. Eaton’s Cycling Without Age Program and the Lakewood Bicycle Advisory Team were recognized with the 2018 award.
Highlights of the Eaton improvements include a 2010 Weatherization grant from the U. S. Department of Energy that replaced the boilers, apartment refrigerators and common-area lighting with energy-efficient equipment. A partnership with Denver Water in 2011 yielded a complete landscaping and irrigation system renovation, resulting in a nearly 50% savings of irrigation water.
Eaton’s Green Team is made up of resident volunteers who continue to educate new residents about recycling and monitor all recycling efforts. Eaton Senior Communities is committed to promoting a sustainable environment.
